Do You Believe What You Believe?

My grandmother had just passed away from a short battle with ovarian cancer after having stood on the Word of God for healing, many prayers, and having made all the right confessions. The fight was over. All I  could think was, “How could this have happened?”

When faced with a situation that does not go the way you'd believed it would we are often, as Christians, found questioning God. I remember asking my mom, “How can this be? I don’t understand why God would allow this to happen. I know this isn’t His will.” My mom replied with this: “Do you believe what you believe?”

What a profound statement.

When we are faced head on with opposition, when we seemingly have just lost the fight of faith, when we feel we have no strength left for another faith confession, this is the question that shakes you to your core.

Do I believe in God, His faithfulness, His will to heal, and that He is good? Do I believe in Him and that these characteristics of Him are true, regardless of any circumstance?

Or do I believe in God just because He does things for me?

Many people really don’t ‘believe what they believe’. That is why when push comes to shove, things often fall apart.

We as Christians need to grow and settle in our hearts that we believe what we believe, regardless of circumstance. Circumstance is like the tide, always changing. His Word, is the same, yesterday, today, and forever.

Why do things not always work out? Why do bad things happen to innocent people? Why after standing in faith for a miracle and healing do we sometimes see death?

There is still victory, despite the storm.

These questions can derail you from your walk with God and wreck your faith. However, they are real questions and deserve real answers.

The answer is because we live in a fallen world. Jesus warns us that there will be trials and tribulations in the world, but also tells us to be courageous or to take heart, because He has overcome the world. (John 16:33)

I wish my grandmother was still alive. I wish we would have seen a supernatural miracle. I wish she never got cancer at all. But we live in a fallen world: my grandmother did get cancer and she did pass away from this earth. However, there is still victory, despite the storm. She still won. She did receive the miracle of being born again. That miracle was with her from this life to the next. In heaven she now has complete victory.

We can’t always explain things and life isn't always fair. But regardless of what you have or do not have in life, the question is this: Can you stand firm? Do you believe what you believe?

You cannot lose with Him. Regardless of how life may look in the moment, in the end, you win because of Him.
